This Guide is intended for spas using a Mineral Purifier and a working Ozone system
~ Based on spa volume of 400 to 500 gallons ~
Start-up Procedure:
- Fill the spa with hard water. Note: soft water can be used. However, the calcium hardness level will likely have to be tested and adjusted higher. Please contact dealer before adding soft water.
- Once the spa is full (all underwater jets are covered), turn on GFCI breaker to power up the spa.
- Add 16 oz of Metal Protect.
- After the spa has reached 80ĚŠ -100°, test and adjust the PH and Total Alkalinity levels using the testing strips. (Refer to the last “Note” at the page bottom.) Several, or more, adjustments may be needed before the PH/Total Alkalinity readings on the strips match the “ok” range on the test bottle. Wait 5 minutes after each adjustment before retesting. Note: there will be low or no sanitization reading (MPS or Free Chlorine: depending on type of strip used) on the strips as none has been added yet.
- Once PH and Total Alkalinity have been balanced, add the following:
a. 1 oz. Chlorinating Granules (free chlorine)
b. 2 oz. Oxidizer Shock (MPS)
c. 2 oz Scale Defense
NOTE: Add an additional 1-2 teaspoons of Chlorine after each use.
- Position Mineral Purifier (either blue or yellow) in skimmer area (if blue) or inside filter (if yellow).
Weekly Maintenance - Begin 2-3 Days After a Fresh Water Fill:
Day 1:
a. Test and adjust PH/TA (with pump running)
b. Add 2 oz. Oxidizer Shock
c. Add 2 oz. Spa Brite
Day 2:
Nothing needed
Day 3 (with pump running):
a. Add 2 oz. Scale Defense
b. Add 1 oz. Oil Gone
c. Add 1 oz. Chlorine Granules
Day 4 - 7:
Nothing needed
After each use add 1-2 teaspoons of Chlorine.
Once per week rinse filter cartridge(s).
Once per month soak filter cartridge(s) in a bucket of water mixed with Filter Clean.
Every 4 months replace mineral purifier (toss old purifiers into the garbage).
Note: Low or no sanitizer readings are normal as much of the sanitizing comes from the mineral purifier and the Ozone.
Note: If not using a mineral purifier, maintain a constant chlorine level of 2-3 ppm.
Note: Cloudy water is primarily caused by inadequate sanitation. To cure it, use chlorine and increase filtration.
Note: Oxidizer Shock can be added more than once per week for frequent (3-4 times/week) or heavy (party) use.
Note: Wait 15 minutes before entering the spa after adding Oxidizer Shock.
Note: It is best to leave the spa cover open for 15 minutes after adding Oxidizer Shock.
Note: Oil Gone and Oxidizer Shock should not be used within 24hrs of each other.
Note: Spa Brite and Scale Defense should not be used within 24hrs of each other.
Note: Total Alkalinity does not refer to how “alkaline” the water is. Rather, it is a measure of how likely the PH will change when people and/or chemicals are added. A Total Alkalinity reading in the “ok” range = a more stable PH level.
Note: High PH can cause gritty calcium scale to form. Low PH can cause spa water to be corrosive. Either scenario can be damaging to spas and void the warranty. Always keep PH and Total Alkalinity balanced and use scale defense as directed. Upon fresh fill, balance water ASAP as calcium may begin to form within hours.
